作詞曲: Russell Keslso Carter (1849~1928)
拉塞爾·凱爾索·卡特 出生於馬里蘭州 巴爾的摩。他就讀於賓夕法尼亞軍事學院，並於 1867 年畢業，獲得土木工程學位。畢業後，他成為該學院的科學和化學教師，直到 1872 年。卡特先生一生中多次轉行。是一位多產的作家。
本詩寫於1886年，本詩源自〈佊得後書1:04〉
「因此，他已將又寶貴又極大的應許賜給我們。
叫我們既脫離世上從情慾來的敗壞，就得與神的性情又分。」
