沃倫·唐納德·康奈爾 牧師出生於美國 密西根州懷特福德，接受過教師培訓，19歲時開始在達拉斯公立學校任教。 1879年，他獲得南方衛理公會牧師執照，並被任命在德克薩斯州丹頓和蓋恩斯維爾各傳道一年。 1880年，他與珍妮·埃斯特爾·羅伯茨結婚，育有五個兒子：沃倫、路易斯、威廉、羅伯特和唐納德。
1881年，他移居威斯康辛州奧什科甚地區，此後的大部分時間都在威斯康辛州柏林和奧什科甚的各個教區擔任牧師。他是一位雄辯的佈道家、詩人兼福音傳道者。 1894年，他成為威斯康辛州豐迪拉克人民基督徒協會的牧師。該協會運作了十年後解散。康奈爾牧師在豐迪拉克牧養了一間獨立教會。
