改編於1850 年將本詩和配曲， 插入他所編的Church Chorals 。這位19 世紀美國有名的作曲家生於波士頓，曾在德國的法蘭克福和來比錫研究音樂六年，在那裡結識孟德爾頌（Mendelssohn），並成為好朋友，孟德爾頌曾為威利斯的作品指點校訂。威利斯1848 年返美後，從事報刊工作，擔任New York Tribune，The Albion 與Musical Times 的音樂評論。1862 年李斯特在他的鋼琴名曲：「聖伊利沙白的傳說」（The Ledend of St.Elizabeth）中，也選用此曲調作為「朝聖者之歌」的主題旋律。
