革賴夫牧師 生於美國賓州的坦馬夸（Tamaqua）礦區。很早他便有被呼召傳道的感動，從他三十餘歲擔任費城地區循理會牧師的三十年間，曾牧養過十個教會。1911年克拉夫林大學（Claflin University）授與他神學博士學位。他稟性謙和，為會友所愛戴，熱誠注意並同情他們的需要，因此也得到會友們給他「陽光普照的牧師（Sunshine Minister）」之稱號。
有段時間，革賴夫牧師灰心憂慮，但在讀到彼得前書五章7節：「你們要將一切的憂慮卸給 神，因為他顧念你們。」而獲得安慰，從新得力。1901年，他寫下了本詩。
作曲: 約瑟夫·林肯霍爾 Joseph Lincoln Hall (1866-1930)生於美國賓州, 他創作了清唱劇、合唱聖歌、數百首福音歌曲，並編輯了多部讚美詩集。霍爾曾說過， 《 Does Jesus Care?》的曲調是他最富靈感的音樂作品。
